March[]
- March 29: BLOX City taken offline by attackers
- A user that goes by the name of Byte abused a vulnerability in the site to force it to go offline. At the time, the site did not have timers to stop users from spamming buttons and sending thousands of requests per second to the server. Byte and a few other people who were working with him used this to effectively shut the site down for a few hours. They did this because Kyle pointed out improper security measures in their site. Byte said on Discord: "Since BLOXCity called [Byte's site] insecure, i have taken their entire server down from full-load."
- This began between 6:40 PM and 6:50 PM EST and ended at 12:44 AM the following the day (6 hours later) when BLOX City threatened legal action.
- The vulnerabilities were fixed shortly after, and redundant measures were put into place to make sure similar attacks don't happen in the future.
April[]
- April 4: BLOX City data loss
- BLOX City suddenly went offline and lost all account information after 2/29/2020, which was the last backup. There was no unauthorized personal data breach, and no "hacking". The team at BLOX City decided to keep the website offline until the new version of BLOX City is released, which will include games and "some other surprises". The BLOX City team has decided to reset all data in their database, including accounts, assets and currency. To stay informed, please refer to the BLOX City Discord server and this blog post.
